Is it possible to auto boot/shutdown when Atom is loaded/closed? I've tried to look for this everywhere but can't seem to find how to do it. Is it possible?

When Atom loads, probably not. But there is a startup file that atom runs and you should be able to import atom supercolllider and call the boot function. I would have to look that up.
On shutdown it should kill all child processes including sclang and scsynth. Did you see it escaping the shutdown?
