Steps to reproduce

  1. Be tagged in a message by a spammer
  2. Message is reported and deleted by moderators
  3. Can still see the message months later in the notif panel
  4. Clicking on the timestamp in the notif panel and see "Failed to load timeline position" modal pop up.

Outcome

What did you expect?

Cannot see deleted messages

What happened instead?

Can still see spam in the notif panel (can't check if I can see it in the timeline because the timeline won't load, but pretty sure I wouldn't be able to see it there).

This panel is populated by a server API, so this sounds like a Synapse bug.
