On behalf of @simonihmig I'm crossposting ember-cli/ember-cli-mocha#233 here for visibility. The ember-cli-mocha release he is using has upgraded the ember-test-helpers dependency to v0.7.x and these problems started appearing. Similar issues seemed to appear when running Ghost-Admin using the new ember-cli-mocha beta release.
