@EmmaSweeney: I did correct an instance that was not capitalized (thanks). I do have this word marked as French, not Latin throughout, though Google translate shows it as working from either language. Reasons: (1) No indication from the author / translator that he considered it a Latin / foreign word, (2) Whibley goes on at length about the role of the French translation on Adlington's translation, (3) a number or other French words seem have made their way into this translation as English, and (4) the version revised by Gaselle also gives the original Latin in which the author uses 'balneas' to refer to the baths. So, I think this is a 'mis-'translation by Adlington from Latin into what he sees as English but we would see as French.
