Kobo Desktop stops responding when I connect my Kobo Touch ereader after factory reset #81

The Kobo Desktop stops responding when I connect my Kobo Touch ereader upon which I performed a factory reset. Kobo touch wifi and dictionary no longer accessible and was hoping ereader setup would resolve those issues. But now I am unable to perform Ereader Setup on Kobo desktop. I am using Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809 with cumulative update March 12, 2019—KB4489899 (OS Build 17763.379) on a Dell Inspiron 15 notebook.

Rakuten Kobo support assure me that they will fix this. But maybe posting here might help accelerate resolution since they will provide no date for the next Kobo desktop update which makes me seek out other avenues.

The factory reset does allow me to read books but would be nice to get wifi access and dictionary.

What is your firmware version? Also, when Kobo Desktop stops responding, does the Kobo still appear in Explorer?

If you mean my notebook firmware from device manager, it is 01.01.07

Yes Kobo still appears in Explorer when Kobo desktop stops responding

I did a factory reset so I have Software version 1.9.4 (r29344, Jun 18 2011) which is what appears in Device Information.

From File Explorer, here is what appears in the "version" file of the kobo folder on the ereader "______,2.6.35.3,1.9.4,2.6.35.3,2.6.35.3,00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000310".

There is also this driver for my "kobo ereader usb device" that shows up in my windows device drivers list: 2006-06-21 version 10.0.17763.1

Ok, that firmware is too old for me to test with myself. Although, I know many of the older ereaders were recently discontinued, but I was under the impression Kobo Desktop would continue to work. When did it stop working?

Also, what exactly triggers the freezing (plugging it in, trying to set it up, etc)?

P.S. I suggest you remove that first number from your post (KG...A) and delete the edit, as it's your serial number.

I am sorry I don't know when the Kobo Desktop last worked for Kobo Touch. I was updating over wifi over the years.

Rakuten Kobo website continues to kindly list Kobo Touch troubleshooting advice.

However it was that advice that suggested the "factory reset" solution which seemed kind of rash for such an old device, but I was eager to read my book so gave it a whirl. Bad idea obviously. It turns out that it would have been far more advisable to continue reading adobe digital editions troubleshooting forums as there was some good advice there on how to correct authorization malfunctioning.

Plugging the ereader in via a USB cord to laptop triggers freezing. If I attempt to start Kobo desktop with ereader plugged in, Kobo Desktop won't even start. If I plug in after Kobo desktop started, "not responding" error will appear on frozen Kobo Desktop interface window.
