When installing, it asks me for permission to read contacts. I don't want to expose my contacts. So, is it possible to make this permission on demand? Thank you.

Not an in-app solution, but many ROMs (like lineageos for example) or add-ons (like Xprivacy) allow you to disallow access to contacts and similar sensitive data on a per-app basis.

Update: after the app is installed, my Android 14 allows me to go to system settings / Apps / shareviahttp / permissions and revoke Contacts (or other) permissions.

Another general approach: a Contacts app that does not use Android's systemwide database, for example this one
