In the newest version value must be specified

In current 2.2.1 there is no possibility to create an instance of the month picker without a month picked(which was possible in older version 1.3.1, when passed empty strings/undefined as month and year). It is crucial, because if a new record is created, it does not come with any predetermined date, and thus it would be needed to select it first.
Is there any workaround or is it expected behaviour?
