The message on the SIG meeting today(2022-04-13) was quite clear: New SDKs should work with the old APIs at all times.

Trace SDK packages should support older API

  • @opentelemetry/sdk-trace-base,
  • @opentelemetry/sdk-trace-node,
  • @opentelemetry/sdk-trace-web.

Current range: >=1.1.0 <1.2.0.

That ideally would apply to both minor versions of the SDK: 1.0 and 1.1.
