Applications like TextExpander, Typinator, and TypeIt4Me monitor the keyboard event stream to determine when the user types a particular abbreviation.

Notational Velocity will block these applications from interacting with it if Secure Text Entry is enabled. To disable this option, uncheck

Preferences > Notes > Security > Secure Text Entry
