Tips for taking the TensorFlow Developer Certificate Exam:

  1. Software and Package Management:

    • Install the correct versions of Python packages, as required in page 10 of the handbook https://www.tensorflow.org/extras/cert/Setting_Up_TF_Developer_Certificate_Exam.pdf. This is usually done automatically using requirements.txt
    • If you encounter difficulties automatically installing packages, just try again or try installing them manually via the Python Packages panel or the settings menu (settings/Project:[project name])/Python Interpreter).
    • If the TensorFlow package installation fails on the first attempt, try again.
    • The latest version of PyCharm may not be compatible with TensorFlow Developer Certificate plugin. If that's the case, download an older version of Pycharm.
  2. Specific Software Issues and Solutions:

    • On Microsoft Windows, when running a Python solution file, if you encounter "ImportError: cannot import name '_ no_nep50_warning' from 'numpy.core._ufunc_config'", resolve it by uninstalling the current numpy version and installing version 1.23.0.
    • When working with JSON files, declare utf-8 encoding to avoid UnicodeDecodeErrors. Use: with open(json_file, 'r', encoding='utf-8') as f.
    • For Mac users, if you receive an URLError related to SSL certificate verification (urllib.error.URLError: <urlopen error [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED]), install an SSL certificate by navigating to Finder > Applications > Python3.8 folder (or your Python version) and running the "Install Certificates.command" file.
  3. Model Output Focus:

    • The exam primarily evaluates the output of your model. Ensure the first and last layers of the Sequential model are correctly defined.
    • Pay attention to the input shape, which must match the required one.
  4. Efficiency in Model Training:

    • For image classification problems, consider setting the number of epochs between 10-20 and early callback patience to 3-5. This approach helps identify ineffective models quickly, allowing for timely fine-tuning and retraining.
    • If you have slow internet and need to retrain an image classification model, consider commenting out or conditionally controlling the dataset downloading section to prevent redundant downloads, saving valuable time.

These tips are structured to provide a clearer understanding and easier recall during the exam.
