The only place I have found so far where this does not happen is https://matrix.to/#/#element-community-testing:matrix.org (i.e. a public unencrypted room) |

confirming: develop.element.io is still wiggly right now I can also confirm that it seems to happen (exactly) when the senders of a message are verified in a e2ee room/DM. |

Just tested, and this has been fixed (most probably as part of matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk#7209) |
