Reverts #1672 which fixed #1667 but likely caused #1683

Should this be merged ASAP or only if 5b4f590 / #1689 doesn't fix the problem?

Should this be merged ASAP

I vouch for this.. btw, the VS2019 update was just for general measure, because it included more compiler bugfixes than any other recent releases.

Merge this and perform the same method of testing
