Once a conversation has begun, the conversation thread between the two will be listed under 'Messages' found in the navigation bar at the top. As an instructor, go to the page your course that lists the current enrolled students. In the list of students, click on the 'show' option. You will find a 'Send a message' against the students name. The thread will be found in the Messages menu item.
