new term request: interoceptive system, and issue with neural system #1385
Comments
OK, added new term, and linked existing interoceptor class to this.
For anatomical systems, the distinction between system and subsystem can
be arbitrary. It's traditional to have nervous, renal, digestive etc at
the level of system, making the further divisions subsystems.
Can we provide an equivalence axiom for neural system? 'organ system
subdivision' and part-of some 'nervous system' might be too permissive,
lots of things like somatic nervous system would classify there. Even
though this firs the text definition, judging by how it was originall
used in nifstd it seems the intent was for smaller subsystems?
Alternately, 'neural system' could be obsoleted, unless there is a use
case for it.

We have a use case for neural system, or at least we found it useful to employ that terminology when talking about which 'neural system' was thought to be involved in a certain behavior or behavioral task. I am not sure the equivalence axiom suggested works as desired, and even if it did there is a question of whether the position of neural system is correct. Looking at Regardless, it would be nice if neural system could have as subclasses all the sensory system classes, but I think that some of them, such as the |
This is just the expansion of the shortcut "overlaps" relation. Looks like it was added as part of the still ongoing #175 - structures like the labyrinths of the ear have parts in common with the nervous system, but also extend beyond it. I'll think more about this. Maybe we need a subclass |
